What are crowns and bridges?

crowns are for single tooth and two or more crowns make up a bridge.

Types of crowns:

1)Metal crowns
Indicated for molar / back tooth where esthetics doesn’t come into picture.
Looks esthetically unpleasing.

2)ceramic or PFM crowns.
A metal lining inside for strength and tooth colored ceramic layer outside for esthetics.
Mostly for molars/back teeth

3)Metal free crowns
Zirconia
Or E max and alot of variety.
Recommended especially for anterior or front teeth.

Procedure:
The dentist makes space for the crowns by making a crown preparation on the required tooth or area,takes customised measurements using putty/rubber based measurements and shade selection is done based on the adjacent tooth.
Step 2:
These measurements are then sterilised and sent to the concerned labs,where a dental technician uses cad cam technology to make the crowns/bridges .
Step 3:
The finished crown is fixed onto the tooth using a luting cement.
The crowns might take anywhere from 3 to 7 working days to be fabricated.
Urgent crowns can be processed in a day or two
Temporary crowns are given in case of front teeth.
